I hope this information on Miniature Schnauzers has been helpful to you. When making the
decision to make any pet a part of your family, it's best to have as much knowledge of the breed as
possible. I ask that you look at all the pros & cons to decide if a Mini is the right pet for your home.
I make myself available for questions or help to my puppy families or anyone interested in
providing a forever home to a Miniature Schnauzer. I enjoy receiving emails and picture updates
as my puppies grow with their families as well.

OWNING THE MINIATURE SCHNAUZER:
The Miniature Schnauzer is an alert, spirited, friendly dog who is as much at home in a city with a small
amount of exercise as they are in the country where they appear tireless.
The Miniature Schnauzer makes a lovely pet because they are bright, curious, playful, and loyal. Their
deepest need is to live as a part of the family, going & doing what the family does. They are known to be
excellent watchdogs and are typically vocal, rather than aggressive, which makes them an ideal choice for
prospective owners. They might and courageous, yet obedient to command. They are hardy and healthy
pets with a generous life span of approximately 12 to 14 yrs. With proper care and veterinary assistance they
can even live to be in the upper teens. My Miniature Schnauzer I had as a young teen lived a wonderful and
happy 17 years.
SIZE:
He is sturdily built, nearly square in proportion of body length of height, with plenty of bone, and without
any suggestion of toyishness. From 12-14 inches or 30-36 cm.
COAT:
The Miniature Schnauzer does not shed and while not hypo-allergenic, they can often be enjoyed by
persons who are allergic to other breeds. Double coat, with hard, wiry, outer coat and close undercoat.

We'd like you to know what care our adult minis and puppies receive here with us. They are all given filtered water which assists the pancreas from having to work and make enzymes just to break down the water. We feed Nutro Natural Choice dog food which is a high quality food found at Petsmart, Petco and specialty pet suppliers. I like Nutro products because they are wheat free which means less allergy issues & great coat. Nutro is also very balanced in Protein & Fat content which is very important in a Schnauzer due to Pancreatic tendency. We also use NuVet vitamin supplements for the total health of our dogs and puppies. NuVet info is also provided below.

Of course it's true, I am very partial to the Miniature Schnauzer, but just as with any breed,
proper, basic training is key. In my experience I have found the Mini's intelligence and need to
please is what makes them so successful in learning the simplest of tasks, to complicated tricks.
Then there's the joyous potty training which can make many new owners frustrated if they, the
owners aren't consistent. Crate training, which was suggested to me by my vet years ago is a
method I highly recommend and wish I had known about with my first Mini. Be sure to read the
info and useful tips I provide on our Puppy Care page about Crate Potty Training. There are also
lots of books at local pet stores and info on the web about crate training which you might find
helpful.
Male or Female?
makes a wonderful pet. In some breeds, gender has a noticeable impact on characteristics (size,
temperament, etc.). This is not the case with the Mini. Both sexes are affectionate and loving and the size
difference between males and females is not significant. The temperament of the parents is which benefits
your dog’s long term health. Some people are under the impression that female dogs that do not give birth
are more likely to get cancer, this is an erroneous concept. Another misconception is that male dogs lift
their legs and urinate on the couches and furniture in secret. Dogs that are properly trained will not urinate
in the house be it male or female.
